About Us

We built our horse facility in 2002 and are continually making improvements. We had a vision that we wanted to see come to life. With a lot of hard work, we have been blessed to be able to keep our herd at home and to be able to share our facility with others during our home based clinics. Our passion for putting the horse first has lead us down a long path with many outstanding horsemen and women.

Karen starting out riding hunter/jumpers as a kid and has 40+ years of experience with horses. She currently studies with top dressage and biomechanics trainers and has worked with Dee Janelle of Simple Equine Teaching as well as with Martin Black, Joe Wolter, Mark Russell, Jillian Kreinbring, Buck Brannaman, Ray Hunt and others.

Karen and Mike started another journey with Working Equitation. A sport that allows us to apply all the knowledge we’ve gained over the years. We thought it important to become very knowledgable about the sport and the U.S. rules in order to help educate others in our area.  Karen has earned her Judging and Technical Delegate licenses for Working Equitation. Mike and Karen pride themselves on bringing their own horses up through the levels of Working Equitation. They have both earned Lifetime Achievement Medals, Horse Performance Achievement Scores and have horses competing in Novice A through Intermediate B levels with many Championships and year end achievement awards.

Karen held a certification as an Equine Specialist with the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). As student of nutrition, Karen incorporates balanced nutrition as part of KarMik Acres’ whole horse care. We strongly believe in keeping our horse’s environment and diet as natural and organic as we possibly can in today’s world. Our favorite feed supplements are Cool Stance and Advanced Biologic Concepts – organic minerals.

Mike also currently studied with Dee Janelle as well as Ray Hunt, Joe Wolter, Mark Russell, Martin Black, Jillian Kreinbring, Buck Brannaman and other fine horsemen and women.  Mike is certified under KC LaPierre as an equine podiatrist. He is working on his Level 2 certification with KC. He trims a very limited number of outside horses.

Although horses are our passion, we do have other things to keep us busy. In his spare time, Mike is a Captain for a major airline and Karen is a Marketing and Product Development consultant and Website Designer. Aside from KarMik Acres, Inc, Karen has served on the Board of Directors as well as other committees for the former Confederation for Working Equitation to help grow the sport of working equitation.
